Sound Effects (Pun Intended)

Hi there. It’s been awhile. I hope you’re doing well.

I have a request for anyone who has control of what comes out of my car radio. Please stop putting traffic noises and car horns in your commercials, show segments, etc. It may just be me, but when I’m driving down the highway listening to the radio and you play a car horn and screeching tire sound effect, my natural response is to anticipate death.

It seems like a pretty logical response to me. When was the last time you heard a car horn or screeching tires on the highway and it meant anything good?

I get it. You’re doing the traffic report, so you decided to have traffic sounds. You thought, “Hey, that’s appropriate right?” No. It’s unsettling.

The same goes for anyone making music. Please stop putting police or emergency vehicle sirens in your songs. We get it, you’re dangerous or on fire or something. But those sounds make me turn your music off so that I can pay attention to the emergency that doesn’t exist.

Please, consider the consequences of your sounds effects.

Wisdom by Warren:
Be on time. It’s the easiest way to look like you know what you’re doing.
